Environment

Waterton Glacier International Peace Park is one of the most beautiful natural settings in the world.  Glacier Park, Inc. is committed to decreasing each hotel’s negative impact on this environment.  Some of our efforts are listed below and we encourage our guests and visitors to continue to help us with our endeavors.

Recycling
Glacier Park, Inc. has a special deposit on all aluminum cans and single serving drink bottles that is redeemable at any store in the Park when the cans and bottles are returned.  Recycling receptacles are available in all guest rooms and public areas in the lodges and motels for cardboard and aluminum products.

Energy Conservation
All paper products used in our guest rooms are recycled products.  All of our cleaning products are “green” (environmentally friendly).  Energy-efficient light bulbs are used in all public areas and guest rooms.

Pollution
All 33 of our Red Buses and all of our delivery trucks run on clean-burning propane fuel making them 93 percent more environmentally friendly than gasoline operated vehicles.

Impact on Nature
GPI participates in, and provides to our guests and employees information on, the Leave No Trace program.  Leave No Trace is a national program that “promotes and inspires responsible outdoor recreation and stewardship” of our national parks and other public lands.  The seven principles of Leave No Trace are –

  • Plan ahead and prepare – know and respect the inherent risks of back-country and day hiking.  Avoid traveling alone, travel in small groups and always let someone know where you are going.

  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces – stay on trails.  Short-cutting or leaving trails causes erosion and damages natural vegetation.  Use only designated campsites to minimize impact on the natural environment.

  • Dispose of waste properly – pack it in, pack it out.  Follow published guidelines for disposal of human waste and food scraps, and carry washing water away from lakes and streams.

  • Leave what you find – leave all natural and historical objects for others to enjoy.

  • Minimize campfire impact – campfires are restricted to designated fire pits and should be kept small.  Burn all fires down to white ash and make sure they are dead out!

  • Respect wildlife – feeding wild animals damages their health, alters natural behavior and exposes them to predators and other dangers.  Photograph from a safe distance.

  • Be considerate of others – everyone has a right to enjoy our natural wilderness.  Keep noise to a minimum and protect the quality of our wild lands.
