Live & Work in Glacier National Park

Choosing to spend the summer in Glacier National Park means seizing the opportunity to live in one of the most spectacular settings on earth. Few will have the opportunity to experience the Park like those who spend the summer living and working in this 1.1 million acre wilderness.
 
Glacier is a unique ecosphere and cultural environment. A sense of openness and adventure resounds in those who find a real sense of home here in the mountains. Our community is diverse. Each summer employees from more than a dozen countries and all 50 states call Glacier home. Additionally, you will live and work with students, professionals and retirees.

Meals & Lodging


Employees that require housing will typically live at the property for which they are assigned to work. 

West Glacier/Apgar Village Employee Housing

Employee housing units are rustic accommodations with shared restroom, shower, and kitchen facilities. Roommates should be expected. Limited “couples” housing may be available, but is NOT guaranteed.

Pets are NOT allowed

Employee cafeterias are not available at West Glacier or Apgar Village

Employee Housing at West Glacier is charged at a flat rate of $4.29 per day, per person. All fees are payroll deducted. There are no charges for managers or assistant managers.

Limited employee RV sites (full hook-up) are available at West Glacier. West Glacier RV sites are charged at a flat rate of $30 per week, per unit. No kitchen facilities are provided.


Glacier Park Lodge/St. Mary Lodge

Employee housing is rustic dormitory-style accommodations. Restrooms/Shower facilities are shared. Roommates should be expected (2-4 people per room). Limited “couples” housing may be available, but is NOT guaranteed.

Pets are NOT allowed in dormitories.

Employee housing does not include kitchen facilities, air-conditioning or television.

Employee meals are served in the Employee Dining Room (EDR). The EDR prepares 3 hot, cafeteria-style meals per day. Staples such as fresh fruit, cereal, breads, and a variety of hot and cold beverages are available all day. 

Employee housing is provided at $12.75 per day, per person. This includes 3 meals per day, per person at any Glacier Park, Inc. employee cafeteria. All fees are payroll deducted. There are no charges for managers or assistant managers.

Limited employee RV sites (full hook-up) are available at East Glacier only. East Glacier RV sites are charged at a flat rate $6.38 per day, per person which includes one meal per day, per person at any GPI employee cafeteria.

Returning employees receive a 25% discount on meals & lodging per current, consecutive seasons worked up to a maximum of 2 seasons. At three or more consecutive seasons, meals & lodging are provided at a 50% discount.

Additional employee meal plans are available for employees who do not live in company housing. Please inquire with People & Culture for current meal plans & rates.


Communications

Because of the remote nature of our facilities, connectivity is limited. 

Phones: Pre-paid phone cards are recommended. Pay phones in hotel lobbies and house phones in dormitories are available for employee use. Limited cell phone coverage may be available.

Internet: Limited wi-fi is available in dormitories and/or employee recreation areas. Please note that access at times is inconsistent, restricted, extremely slow, or unavailable. Computers are available for use in employee common areas.

TV: Satellite TV is provided in employee recreation rooms.

 

Travel & Transportation 

All employees are responsible for their own travel to and from Glacier. Glacier Park, Inc will provide shuttle service for employees arriving at specified air, rail, and bus depots. Detailed instructions for arrival including a shuttle schedule will be provided upon hire. Employees are welcome to bring their own vehicle. Parking is available at all properties. Limited public transportation is available in and around Glacier National Park via NPS Hiker Shuttle (on Going-to-the-Sun Road only) and local GPI shuttles.


Glacier Park Lodge

Glacier Park Lodge, which celebrated its centennial in 2013, was built by Louis Hill of the Great Northern Railway. Also known as the “Big Tree Lodge,” it is located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in the small community of East Glacier Park, MT and adjacent to Glacier National Park’s Two Medicine area. This location provides a small town feel with several independent motels and cafes, a gas station, mercantile, and post office. Personal vehicles are advantageous for exploring the Park. Glacier Park Lodge is our most diverse property and offers outstanding hiking and stunning views without the crowds.

St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel

St. Mary Lodge, Cabins, and Motel our most modern gateway property, is a high volume, multi outlet facility at the east entrance to Glacier National Park. Located on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, employees enjoy a fast-paced work environment and endless recreation opportunities in the wind-swept east side of Glacier. Though remote, living and working at the intersection of Going-to-the-Sun Road and the eastside boundary highway (MT 89), employees have outstanding access to the entire Park. Hiking is the prevailing enterprise of this diverse workforce when not engaging the millions of annual Park visitors.
