Almost everywhere in northwest Montana is beautiful in the fall, but these are some of my favorite spots to breathe in the crisp autumn air and take in the colors.
East Glacier Area
This shot was taken on Looking Glass highway. Looking Glass is just a few miles from Glacier Park Lodge. The East Glacier area is especially beautiful because of the high population of Aspen trees in the area.
The North Fork is a personal favorite of mine. Tucked just north of Columbia Falls, it encompasses the county North Fork road and Camas Road in Glacier. The North Fork of the Flathead River meanders along beneath the peaks of Glacier and southern British Columbia. It's a prime spot for wildlife spotting as well, especially Elk.
West Glacier is suprisingly quiet this time of year, but still stunningly beautiful. Fall is a great in West G for fishing and hiking, and you'll likely have the river or trail all to yourself.
You don't have to stray far from Whitefish to see some beautiful fall scenery. This is Smith Lake along the Whitefish Trail. It's just a few miles from Whitefish and Grouse Mountain Lodge.
Happy fall color hunting!
