General Expectations:
- Weather in Waterton-Glacier Park is unpredictable and can be extreme. It is not uncommon for temperatures to fluctuate by 30°F or 40°F in a single day. You may be exposed to direct sunlight on picture perfect days or rain, high winds and even wintery conditions during your stay.
- You will be living & working in a National Park. It is not uncommon to encounter all forms of wildlife throughout your day. Creatures range from Grizzly & Black bears, moose & deer, to birds, bats, rodents, and insects.
- Employment may be hectic, challenging and physically demanding throughout the summer. All Park hotels open and close each season, so early and late season employment will require participating in set up and closing procedures.
- Park visitation exceeds 2 million guests per summer. This means your workday will be high volume, fast paced and at times chaotic. We expect that all employees keep a positive and professional attitude at all times.
- All employees will serve any guest, regardless of race, creed, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, etc.
- Because of our remote location, cell phone service is limited, at best. Coverage may not be available for extended periods of time or at all. We recommend you bring a pre-paid calling card for use on pay phones around property.
- *Please note* Limited satellite internet access and Wi-Fi is available for employees. However, access is at times inconsistent, restricted, extremely slow, or unavailable. Due to the limited nature of our satellite internet services, considering options such as online learning, for example, are not recommended.
- Locations such as hospital/medical facilities, banks, grocery stores, or movie theatres may be in excess of 75 miles away depending on your employment location.
- A direct deposit payroll option is available and recommended for all employees.
- An employee nurse is on staff during the summer to administer general employee care. More serious needs requiring urgent care will be handled through NPS, Rangers, or EMS. Please prepare accordingly.
- Most employment locations sit at elevations in excess of 4,000’ above sea level. Applicants who may be affected by higher elevations should consult with your physician prior to accepting employment.
- Meals & Lodging are provided for qualified employees at a nominal fee. All charges are payroll deducted. Returning employees receive a 25% discount on meals & lodging, per current consecutive seasons worked. Please check with Human Resources for 2012 rates.
- Employee housing is rustic dormitory-style living with shared rest rooms & facilities. Employee housing does not include kitchen facilities, air conditioning, or television. Though housing is onsite, some walking may be required to and from your work area.
- Sorry, no pets are allowed in company housing.
- Guests and family members are not permitted in employee housing. Limited discount rates may be available for guests and family at our Lodges & Motor Inns. Please inquire with central reservations at 406.892.2525 for rates.
- Employee meals are served in the employee cafeterias at scheduled periods throughout the day. All employees will receive break periods during these allotted times.
- Employees are responsible for their own transportation to Glacier Park. However an employee shuttle to and from the airport & bus depot in Kalispell and the West Glacier/East Glacier train stations are available to employees who secure arrangements at least two weeks prior to their arrival or departure.
- Employees working at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Canada are responsible for their own transportation to Waterton Park. However an employee shuttle is available to and from Pincher Creek, AB. for those employees arriving and departing by air or bus. Transportation arrangements must be finalized at least two weeks prior to arrival or departure.
- Free employee shuttle service to Kalispell is available from most US locations on a limited, pre-scheduled basis during peak season. These shuttles do fill up quickly, and advanced sign-up is required. Schedules and sign-up sheets are available at all employment locations.
- GPI and the NPS operate shuttles in and around Glacier Park on a daily basis, during peak season. Most areas of the park can be accessed using this convenient shuttle system with proper advanced planning. The NPS shuttle is free of charge to all users. The GPI shuttle is free of charge to GPI employees on a “space available” basis.
- We encourage all employees to organize & participate in activities for themselves and co-workers: movie night, sporting events, bon fires, dance parties, group hiking, etc.
- Other employee activities are available, such as early season white water rafting at discounted rates and free Red Bus Tours and Boat tours when space is available
- Employee recreation areas are available at each location. Commonly referred to as the “employee rec. room,” these areas may include; satellite television, satellite internet, pool table, ping-pong table, darts, game tables, fitness equipment, etc.
- Glacier Park, Inc. is committed to making a significant and sustainable impact on ending alcohol and drug abuse/misuse amongst our employees. If you choose to abuse alcohol, engage in excessive drinking or the use of illegal substances, we ask that you do not consider coming to work for GPI.
- The legal drinking age in Montana is 21. The legal drinking age in Canada is 19. Underage drinking will not be tolerated and is enforced by Park Rangers, GPI management and security.
